Milkweed
To be exact, it's a "Red"Butterfly Milkweed!
If you like butterflies, (specifically the beautiful Monarch Butterfly) you really have to tolerate the caterpillar that dines in your garden (ugly, little fat things!) The thorn on its backside is particularly hideous! The caterpillar lays eggs on the underside of the leaves. (when the leaves are full of holes, thats good!
This painting features a Monarch butterfly having dinner on a tropical Milkweed Blood-flower that grows in my garden! (Yuk!)
