Pyracantha
Since it's peak bloom time is November and December, Pyracantha is a good substitute for traditional Poinsettias at Christmas time.
Pyracantha is considered a "bush" but it certainly has vine properties, AND the meanest thorns you can imagine! (wear gloves if you want to collect some for decorating the mantle at Christmas time!)
